The GrandFriends are at the heart of all we do.

Could YOU be a GrandFriend?

We are always recruiting for people to join our wonderful team of volunteers.

Our GrandFriend Volunteers are elders (broadly of  retirement age) who are in their early 60s to late 80s so far . . .

Our GrandFriends have some spare time to give to children and younger adults. We encourage elders who may be missing the regular company of younger people to join us.

Volunteers don’t need to be grandparents themselves.

We never ask for any kind of time commitment.

GrandFriends are welcome to come to as few or as many sessions as they like.

No teaching qualifications or experience required and people of all  backgrounds are welcome to get in touch.

Training is provided and  the GrandFriends are supported by staff at all of our programmes.

We welcome volunteers from all over Bath and the surrounding areas.   Travel costs will be refunded and we can arrange transport if needed

Please do get in touch for an informal chat if you, or someone you know, may be interested in joining us or to find out more.

Why Volunteer?

Here are just some of the reasons given by the GrandFriends themselves.

Part of a Team

I would say I’m happier now having a wider group of friends through GrandFriends - I was surprised how hard it was to make friends when I retired.  I think COVID had something to do with it  - people were so closed. I have met some good people now who I can really connect with, we do seem to have lots in common."

Feel Rewarded

"Quite often I have to force myself to get out of the house, but I love the feeling I always get after a lunch time session. The children are engaging and appreciative. GrandFriends has helped me feel more confident and when I walk into school and the kids all wave, it makes me feel great, and like an achievement”

Purpose

"The training and support from the GrandFriends staff have shown me that I do have something to give to younger people, which is needed and wanted."

"I always look forward to the  sessions, they give me a focus to the week.  You give a useful hour of your time and feel happy at the end."

The GrandFriends Events

We have programme of volunteers' social events all year round, including the Christmas Party, Summer Party and Cafe Collectives where we meet at a different independent cafe in Bath each time.
